TRANSITO BY SPACE ENCOUNTERS

Transito pop-up bar/installation by Space Encounters in collaboration with Children of the Light.

“The installation Transito is a collaborative effort of Space Encounters and Children of the light. The installation originally occupied a 50-meter-long gallery of the Museum Diocesano during Salone del Mobile 2018, and in its form, takes cues from Milan’s symmetrical, well-ordered structures of Neoclassicism. By entering the installation, the surroundings seem to become weightless as the light carries and moves you forward. The defined measurements of the gallery space appear to become endless, as if there is no beginning or end.

The coloured waves of light irritate expected ways of perceiving time and space. One moment, the installation feels like a black hole, the other moment you become absorbed in light. Walking through the arches makes time feel warped and lets you intimately experience the idea of infinity.

To further archive immersiveness, the sound has been composed with the glass harmonica. Only using the frequencies of the visual spectrum, the installation’s visual material gets converted into sonic matter. Space Encounters x Children of the Light’s approach to treating light as an element with sculptural qualities makes the arches, pillars and, consequently, the space dissolve into liquid architecture.”
